Culvert on Root Road bothered by beavers

WESTFIELD — The Conservation Commission unanimously approved the installation of new technology in the form of an innovative nitrogen removal system over an existing septic tank at 216.5 Belanger Road on Aug. 9. Also discussed at the meeting were problems the Department of Public Works is having with beavers on Root Road.

The Nitrex Nitrogen Removal Wastewater Treatment System is proprietary and patented by Lombardo Associates of Newton. According to lombardoassociates.com, the Nitrex filter is the only known treatment technology to provide virtually complete single-pass nitrate removal (over 97%) to produce an effluent quality that meets the new stringent surface water discharge criteria for ammonium and nitrate.
