Royal Helium is strengthening its presence in the aerospace market, having inked a new long-term supply agreement with a North American space launch company.

Formalising the deal on Monday (29th August), the helium exploration and production firm said it will begin delivering helium to the undisclosed partner next year (2023).

For many years, helium has continued to be a valuable commodity used in the development of new technologies that enable space travel and discovery.

Andrew Davidson, President and CEO of Royal Helium, said, “We would like to thank our new partner for their substantial commitment to Royal Helium and Royal Helium’s low carbon helium production programmes.”

“Royal Helium aims to be a leading, greener source of helium for the aerospace, high tech, medical, and manufacturing industries worldwide.”

More moves being made in Saskatchewan

As well as outer space effort, Royal Helium this week also confirmed that the engineering of its initial processing facilities in Canada are largely complete, with supply and construction contracts currently being awarded.

The two initial facilities will be located at Steveville, Alberta and at Climax, Saskatchewan, with a combines throughput capacity of 20,000 million cubic feet per day gas input.

Speaking to gasworld US exclusively earlier this year, Davidson explained that the company’s principal project area is the Climax project in Saskatchewan. Four wells have already been drilled at the site, with more plans in the pipeline.

Davidson told gasworld, “Saskatchewan is the premier jurisdiction for the exploration of helium assets, and frankly, the other jurisdictions aren’t even close.”

Helium exploration company Noble Helium has commenced a farmout process to fund the planned 2023 drilling campaign at the North Rukwa Helium Project in Tanzania.

Avanti Helium is making great headways in the state of Montana, having contracted T&S Drilling to drill its WNG 10-21 helium appraisal well into the WNG helium pool in the Greater Knappen region.

Andrew Davidson, President and CEO of Royal Helium, sits down with gasworld to discuss its prime position in Saskatchewan, the Imperial Helium acquisition and its future plans.
